Register transfer level

Register transfer level description (RTL), also called register transfer logic is a description of a digital electronic circuit in terms of data flow between registers, which store information between clock cycles Register transfer level in a digital circuit. The RTL description specifies what and where this information is stored and how it is passed through the circuit during its operation.

RTL design is the design of an RTL description of a system. The term is also used synonymously with "RTL description".

RTL is used in the logic design phase of the IC design cycle.

Logic simulator tools may verify the correctness of the design by simulating its functionality using its RTL description, among other things. Logic synthesis tools may be used to automatically convert the RTL description of a digital system into a gate level description of the system.

Electronics Topics

The field of electronics is the study and use of systems that operate by controlling the flow of electrons or other electrically charged particles in devices such as thermionic valves and semiconductors. The design and construction of electronic circuits to solve practical problems is part of the fields of electronic engineering, and the hardware design side of computer engineering. The study of new semiconductor devices and their technology is sometimes considered as a branch of physics.
